CYFC 25th year
ANNIVERSARY DINNER 2022
26-03-2022 @ P&J LIVE
Statement from Cove Thistle AFC and Cove Youth FC:
Both football clubs are delighted to announce that we have joined forces to celebrate our Anniversary Dinners in March 2022. Cove Thistle will be celebrating an amazing 70 years in Amateur Football and Cove Youth celebrated their 25th Anniversary in Youth Football in 2020 but sadly they were unable to host an anniversary dinner due to Covid. As both clubs have worked together in the community for many years it makes sense that we join together to celebrate these important milestones in our history.
COVE THISTLE AFC (CTAFC)
CTAFC were formed in 1952 to allow young local players from the area the chance to play football. The club have been affiliated, since forming, to the Aberdeenshire Amateur Football Association, who themselves were founded in 1947.
The team still play on the same pitch, on Cove Road, which was originally called Recreation Park. The piece of land was owned by Charles and Jack Catto who subsequently donated the land for local recreational purposes. In 1996 the pitch was officially named Catto Park in their honour.
One of the many key times during the club history was the foresight shown by the committee at the time was to purchase the unused local telephone exchange building, located next to Catto Park. After years of hard fundraising and a successful Lottery Grant application, work commenced to convert the building to our now club changing facilities. The club are indebted for the time and effort given by numerous local people during the project. The facilities were completed in 1997.
The team itself have been very successful over the years, having won the Premier league title twice, the North of Scotland Cup 6 times, and other district cups on a number of occasions. Five of our North of Scotland successes were won over consecutive seasons from 2011 to 2016.
We are very proud of the huge efforts of everyone associated with the club over its 70 years history, including committee, managers and of course players, and look forward to having the opportunity of celebrating the occasion on the 26th of March 2022, at P&J Live , with you and your guests.
COVE YOUTH FC (CYFC)
CYFC was formed in September 1995 with 1 coach and 14 seven year old players. Today CYFC boasts over 280 players, 18 teams and over 70 volunteers running the club and the affiliated teams.
Football participation for all forms a large part of the CYFC ethos but coupled with that is the desire to help young footballers enjoy the game and reach their full potential in the football and in life in general.
During the last 25 years CYFC have enjoyed major success in the local youth leagues by winning multiple league championships, local cup competitions and regularly reaching the latter stages of the Scottish Youth Cup. More notably CYFC have had great success in developing young talented footballers into the Aberdeen FC and other Scottish Football League Academies culminating in Scottish International caps for Ryan Fraser, Andrew Shinnie and Graeme Shinnie (all Cove loons).
Twenty Five years is a very significant milestone for CYFC and we would be delighted if you were able to celebrate with us at our joint Anniversary Dinner with Cove Thistle AFC.
We would be delighted to welcome you to our Anniversary Dinner if you are interested in attending. If you are interested in support this event in any way please contact 07713 888051 and further details of the dinner can be provided.
There are also sponsorship packages available so please let us know if these would be of any interest to you and we are happy to personalise any package if you are interested. If you are unable to attend the Dinner but would still have an interest in supporting us, a raffle prize donation would always be most appreciated if this were possible.
